I emailed Oleson requesting which serial #'s the new finish started on.

Ill see if i get any info from that request.

Well, I emailed SA again. IT IS TRUE!! All XD's now have the Melonite finish!!

It was April/May when the running change was completed. The official announcement wasn’t made until today though. Let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

I just picked up a new XD9tac about a month ago and the finish has to be the melonite. It is much nicer than my old pistol.

I might have to trade in my guns. I've come to the realization that I'm not a big 40SW fan. A 9mm melonite XD service would be great.

but with that said, all of my xd's from look exactly the same in color and finish. but if you can confirm the serial numbers, that would be great. One questions though. are the serial numbers sequential regardless of model? or does each line have its own string.

my contact at SA stated that they do not have any record regarding serial # and finish. Although i find that EXTREMELY hard to believe.

Again, i think it is CYA on their part, because if word got out that certain serial #'s had a "defective" finish, it would be hard for dealers to liquidate remaining inventory, and also kill the second hand market, thereby driving down the overall "value" of all XD pistols in the potential consumers mind...

its all economics 101

yeah, i told some guy in another thread that all XD's had melonite but everyone kept insisting it didn't. then when i got the email from SA saying only 45acp, well, i just put it to rest.

I'm glad you posted this because my XD's all of them look exactly alike in finish. i see pictures of some of the older ones and they look almost grayish brown. All mine are pitch black and look like they have a teflon koting. Oh, here's a color example, my slides and frame match in color exactly where as i've seen other peoples XD's slide seem lighter than the frame. it could also be a bad picture too...

I don't know, i don't care. i love my guns
