Absolutely. Dessicant packs are cheap and plentiful. Do an ebay search for "silica gel" or "dessicant" and you'll find any number of sizes. I but multi-packs and keep one in my safe and one in each of my plastic bug out boxes to keep my supplies fresh. The ones I like have an indicator which lets you know when they are saturated, then I pop them in the oven for ~45 minutes and they are like new.

Cheers.

Don't know if you can dehydrate all dessicant packs in the oven or not. But I have one of those remington safe dessicant packs, it's probably 7 inches long and 3 inches wide. When the indicator changes to pink, it says you can recharge it in the oven. Says to put it at 200 degrees and let it be in there like 3-6 hours. Caution!!! don't forget it's in there lol. I accidentally left mine in overnight. didn't catch fire or anything, but it did ruin the pack and it split open when I took it out. So be sure to set a timer if you recharge one of these. By the way, it lasted probably 4 months before it needed recharged and it only cost me about $12. I think it protects up to 34 sq ft.

Silica gel dessicant packs are great, but here's something that's even greaterer: "Dri Rite". This is an ages-old laboratory product used, as you might imagine, to keep sh*t dry. It's a granular material (a little bigger than Grape Nuts) that comes in big quart (or even gallon) bottles. When it's dry it's blue, and when it has absorbed all the water it can hold (and that's a LOT of water), it's pink...and then you can recharge it in a low oven, but sometimes the blue-to-pink thing doesn't work after that. I'll betcha them Relmington packs are stuffed with Dri Rite....prolly at 4x what it would cost you to buy the stuff directly.

Me, I steal it from my lab (shhhh!). If that's not an option for you, you can buy it from just about any laboratory supply company, such as www.fishersci.com. Great stuff, and because you buy it in bulk, you can make whatever size/shape packet you need (use a paper bag and some tape). Just remember to keep the lid screwed TIGHT on the bottle for storage, else it will suck up all the world's water and then where will we be, huh?

I just bought some silica gel from Cabella's for $10. The box is about the size of a powdered sugar box. They say check the middle hole in the bottom of the box and when it turns pink, pop it in the oven at 240 degrees for at least 2 hours.

Try BreakFree Collector

This product was developed for military long term storage. They tested it by exposing two mild steel plates to salt water environments for 1 year. The untreated plate was about rusted away. The trated plate was rust free. It's the final wipedown on everything I shoot - and I collect old military long guns that are often in "not great" shape. It really works - highly recommended (and you can shoot through it without having to clean it out of the barrel before you begin).

I got a few of these.

Keep one in my pistol case and one in the shotgun's case. Never had a spot of rust on either and they stay in the closet for months at a time between uses. I also have a few of the large dessicant packs that came with some overseas equipment. Use those for tool cases though.

Check out "Zerust" as well. I currently use silica gel but the Zerust apparently emits an invisible vapor that forms a corrosion and rust resistant barrier on metal surfaces. just as cheap as the silica gel.

i use silca gel packs in my camera bag.
i get em from walmart.. in the shoe department, in the boxes on the shelf lol.
or you can ask one of the employees, they usually dont give a crap about em, i put one or two in my camera bag, and leave it there for about 4 months, then change em out.

you also get em with Hard drives as well, which i usually have a bunch from that alone.

cheers

Most desicants are rechargeable. You should be able to bake them in the oven at 220 degrees for 6-8 hours with the door slightly cracked and it'll drive off the moisture. It's probably easier to just buy more though.

You can buy large boxes of the stuff through Cabela's. I have on that is for a large closet. IT tells on the instructions that you put it in the oven to dry it back out and use it again.
