[Rust] I've almost always had good things to say about the XD line but...

...this sucks:

I haven't shot my XD all summer, it was properly oiled and has mostly been in my gun cabinet for the last few months. After having owned this pistol for just over a year, I was shocked to see such rust everywhere on the outside of the slide and trigger. Talk about being disheartened

Edit: I meant the title to say "Rust" not "Guns"

OUCH

I'm sorry to hear that man.

God bless my arid Nevada weather.

Say it ain't so ...

That is a ACP'er with the new finish! Please say you stored her in a saline bath.

That makes me worried. I'm moving close to the Ocean next year. I guess duracoat is in my future.

YIKES!

Nah, it's a XD45LE, .45 GAP model with the old finish.

Eh, I just grabbed my toothbrush out of the bathroom and some oil. I guess I'll have to buy a new one tomorrow.

Oh, GAP 45

I feel for you and that is so disappointing. I have regular blued pistols and I have never seen anything in my collection hit that bad. I know it happens but that is just rotten.

Anyone with Beretta 92's with brunell finish see anything like this? Guns with other parka types finishes?

I just don't know if Springfield's standard finish under warrenty would make me happy if this could happen again. Sure, they'll foot the bill for a refinish but you need a finish that isn't going to do this again - ever.

If I buy an other than tenifer/melonite finish model XD I might just duracoat as a preventative measure. Still, going to be watching my 45 Service with melon after seeing those pics.

That hurts.

Well, while springfield is good about re-finishing even though it's explicitly not covered under warranty, I'm going to keep trying to get this stuff off myself. I think it's more of a pain to send it out to them than to deal with if I can spend a couple hours and get it cleaned. I started scrubbing right before I posted this thread and I think it's about 95% better than it was but I was definitely freaked out. I don't think I've ever used so much oil on a pistol before in my life.

Haha, I'm way too fond of this pistol to even consider giving it to someone.
