I do have to wonder why you bought the XD45 GAP instead of the XD45 ACP.
I see no real advantage to getting a GAP model...in fact I see reasons NOT to own a GAP. Why did you happen to choose the GAP model?

I bought the .45 GAP model well before the ACP model came out and at that time SA had expressed that they did not intend on producing a .45 ACP model. I also got a great deal on the pistol, NIB and hard to pass up. I'm personally quite a fan of the .45 GAP round and I'd own another one.
Here are some pics of the pistol cleaned up that I've been working on for the last couple hours:
I'd say it's about 99% of what it should be which isn't bad for just using oil and a cloth.
I understand that sending it back to SA is a pain, but if that were mine I would have sent it in and when I got it back sent it over to James to get a duracoating put on it. After see'ing this gun, I'm considering sending mine (currently rust free) in to get coated BEFORE anything happens. Though, i leave my guns in blue vapor-lock bags wraped in a silcone sock, so I'm not sure I'd have the same issues.
Oh, and on another note... I think it's time to clean your desk..

I've been reading your past posts. And on 06-22-06 you posted picks on this forum of the very same pistol and it looks in great condition. And by the looks of the rust on the gun ( of recent pics ) you stored it in the very same holster ( pictured on 6-22-06 ). Their is more rust on the top back half of the slide and the very front of the barrel. It is a good idea not to store your pistol in a holster. Just my 2 cents.

Works GREAT. Prevents rust, fingerprints, and you can shoot through it. It was developed for the militery for long term metal storage. I started using it on my collection of militery long guns and figured if it worked on these old monsters, it should work on my pistols. I have an XD 40 service pistol that's my duty carry. It's 18 months old, 3000+ rounds through it, carried for every shift I work (usually 3-4 times a week) and used for firing the certification course. It's been exposed to all kinds of elements (rain, snow, heat, cold, sweat, you name it) and no rust anywhere on it. I highly recommend it. I apply it as the final step in cleaning.

My guns really dont rust... I oil them on occasion, but not as regularly as I should... after I shoot them they get a good cleaning. Here's my tip;
I have a fairly good gun safe, not a case or a rack or shelf or a locker... so thats one good investment to make if you havent already. I paid a little over 600 bucks for mine at Sam's Club, its a Winchester. Its not the best, and by far not the worst. It does have a pretty good fire rating... but with a 20 dollar golden rod installed in it, nothing rusts... ever. Save up a few hundred, and instead of buying the next thing on your list (I know how important it is, trust me... my list is as long as most of yours too...) buy something decent to protect all those nice firearms, you wont regret it. If anyone would like pics of my little safe ('bout 5'9" tall, 3.5' wide and bout 2.5' deep... approx) let me know.
P.S. - I almost always use Gunk Out degreaser (just like carb/choke cleaner) and CLP to clean/lube.
