Hard chrome appears to come in any variant from almost invisible to truck-bumper chrome colored.

There's another thread here that had an example of the almost-invisible chrome, but I can't find it.

keep in mind the test only lasted a few days so long term evaporation could make some light stuff like WD40 not as good as they seem in this test

The Boeshield T9 looks interesting and you can get it at Sears.
