Hardchome, period. All my IPSC guns are HC it wears forever and is super easy to maintain. I have not found a colored finish I can't wear off that isn't a fortune.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I plan to change my habits and do my best to clean and oil the gun right after I go to the range. Wiping it down after dry-fire is no problem either. I will probably apply one of the wonder coatings like Aramdillo in case I let my cleaning habits slip once in a while.

Then I'll just shoot the hell out of it and get it refinished sometime next year.

Give "Collector" by BreakFree a try - used by the militery for long term storage. Wipe the gun down as the final step in cleaning - you won't have a rust problem.....

I've heard so much good about hardchrome and that it is the "only way", that I almost can't wait for all my black ones to wear away so I can get it done.

Just ordered some - will try it to see if it's better than Collector. So far, I've been really happy with that product.....

i'm a true gun nut, i think i derive as much pleasure from cleaning my gun as i do shooting it

i got home yesturday from the range at about 4pm had to be to work at 5pm, i still took the time to give her a good cleaning, which i finished up at around 4:30, and was out the door by 4:40, i live 15mins from work, so that would have given me a 5min cushion.

cheers
