Check out my sweet rust(56k forget it)

2 weeks in the safe
Good blue wondering before hand
And a PITA application of Armadillo
My only guess is because the safe seals up tight, and i store wolf ammo in there too. I may have to try something else.

What does wolf ammo have to do with the XD having horrible finish problems? Call SA up and say "listen up Beotches, my gun is a rusty pile, gimmie a new one." They may "armory-kote" it for you, but I doubt you want that since you got the "stainless" version to start.

dude, i dont know what u guys r doing with your guns but rust seems to be a real issue with a good amount of members on this forum.. I have not seen a spec of rust on any of my XD's nor on any of my guns for that matter, and i live a 1/4 mile of the beach. If you take care of it properly no rust should develop..

yup, by no means is it completely the owner fault. It is known that the older XD's have some finish problems and it is not just on a few guns, it is/can be a problem for all of them. For as well as I take care of my pistols I would hate to see that rust develop on them.. but it can happen.. and yes it does suck!

Assuming SA won't do sh*t for you, what other options does the owner have at this point?

XD rust , Rusty XD

I've tried a bunch of different products.

I gave it to a gunsmith to have the sights installed. He broke the rear one, and had to send them both back to the manufacturer for replacement. By the time i got my XD back 4 months had passed. The smith did a piss poor job and really mangled the sides of the sights. But there was no rust after 4 months. Unless the guy cleaned it before giving it back. He didn't seem like that nice of a person.

I cleaned it and put it away. 2 weeks later ^.

I've been looking for some dessicant to place in the safe. I might have to eat alot of beef jerky to get enough. Its a small one that i keep next to my bed in case of an emergency.

Armadilo is not a long term storage option. If your gun is going to sit in the safe for longer than a week with out touching then you need to give it better protection. Cosmoline or some other storage treatment. Oils will run off and if Armadilo is not applied correctly or evenly enough the product will only work where it was applied. Did you place it in the safe in its case or in the open? Did you wipe down the gun before you put it in? Looks like the rust formed right where you would touch the gun to hold it. Grip safety, Slide cuts. The barrel rust could be from some solvent that was left in there or where condensation would have caused disimilar metal corosion.
