I had armadillo heavily coated on my slide, and 1 day in the trunk in a case gave it specs of rust on the slide. They easily wiped off with some oil, and haven't come back since. But, I haven't had my gun in a case in a trunk since then either. And in my safe, I use a dessicant bag and a vapor tablet to combat rust. I'm considering leaving my gun in the case in the trunk for a day, just to see what happens again. If it rusts, I think I will probably contact SA about it.

The smith did a piss poor job and really mangled the sides of the sights. But there was no rust after 4 months. Unless the guy cleaned it before giving it back. He didn't seem like that nice of a person.

I cleaned it and put it away. 2 weeks later ^.

I've been looking for some dessicant to place in the safe. I might have to eat alot of beef jerky to get enough. Its a small one that i keep next to my bed in case of an emergency.
They make big dessicant packs you can get. Go to cabelas and type in dessicant, you should find some there. They're rechargeable by placing them in teh oven to cook moisture out.

Those blue bags work well for extended storage.

I don't classify that as neglect. the one time my gun was exposed to an environment that could rust it, and it rusted? that is honestly only time it has been in any situation that can cause rust, so I'd say neglect wasn't the issue. Especially since I coated the slide heavily with armadillo to help protect from rust.

Should I be concerned about the guns in my Pelican case, it's waterproof and such...

I just bought a Desiccant for the case off E-Bay, but before it arrives, is this something I should be concerned about?

This is what happened when I returned my XD-9 Bi-Tone to Springfield to be refinished under warranty:

"Refinished" Under Warranty - Reply from SA!

I no longer own any XD's.

It's odd how some have issue with rust and others do not. I can see why it is tough for SA to fix the issue. All I can tell you what I do to keep rust away.

1. I wipe down my slide with a light oil (XFR or EEZOX) and let it dry.
2. I apply Armadillo and buff.
3. Repeat step 2.
4. Put away for storage, handing on hooks

In my gun closet I have two golden rods and a dehumidifier. Not sure what helps, but in 3+ years none of my XDs have rusted. If you don't control moisture and protect the metal, you will have rust.

Keep in mind that some people have caustic pH levels. I have never seen a grip safety rust up like that.

I think we all know by now that rust is an issue with the XD platform.. However I think it blows that a gun named Xtreme Duty would not be able to withstand a day or two in the trunk of a car, I cant hardly call that Xtreme!! Because of this rust issue and the fact that I carry daily I have started carrying my Sig much more than my XD9 Sub. I got a bit tired of having to wipe it down every night and be so cautious with a work tool. oh well, carrying the sig doesnt make me disappointed But not really wanting to carry my XD's (with the exclusion of the XD45) does make me a bit frustrated.
