Should I bother sending it back? UPDATED!

I found rust on my XD40.
http://public.fotki.com/realityprodu..._3558aaa1.html

It rubbed off the slide with a little gun oils and elbow grease, but the barrel needed a copper brush to get clean. It is gone (for the moment), but what can SA do that will keep it from coming back?

Do you guys think I should send it in....after it rusts back up again?

thomye:

If I send it back do you know what they will do? The slide could be re-coated is guess, but the barrel is just sub par steel. I have a lot of other brands of pistols and some have very minor pitting/rusting issues after years of being put away, but this XD40 was cleaned well and keeped in a dry environment. Plus I live in SoCal where it isn't exactly humid.

Wow, that looks pretty bad. I'd definitely send it back. You will likely get quizzed about the treatment or conditions for which it was exposed. But I wouldn't shy away from returning it. I'd insist on either a refinishment or replacement.

they'll definately clean it and rekote it. as for the barrel, they might even give you a new one if you squeek enough, provided they don't think you were soking in water.

Worse case scenario, you get a healthy slide back and go out and buy a match grade barsto or efk replacement barrel.

The rust on the barrel is right in the same areas where the finish is worn off of my barrel.

Even if Springfield re-finishes it, the finish will wear off and it will rust again, unless you learn how to lube it properly.

After sending SA an email with pictures, they said and I did, send it back. We will see what happens.

vafish:

You are right. I do need "to learn how to lube it properly". It's just that this is the first time I have purchased such an inferior product. You see I am used to buying quality products like H&K, Sig, Glock, S&W, CZ, Ruger, Taurus, etc. This is my first experience with such low quality merchandise.
