45ACP Bi-tone

I just purchased the 45 Bi tone Tact. Is the Bi-tone most least likely to rust than compared to the black finish? Is there a protective coating on the Bi-tone slide like the black?

Stainless is always more rust resistant. There is no coating over the stainless. You could use Armadillo on it like I do. Good stuff.

There is no substitute for proper gun care. Here is a link for the Armadillo.

Not necessarily true compared to the melonite which is on the xd45 he is talking about. Pretty much the only stainless that's totally rust resistant is Medical grade (not necessarily just medical tools but medical grade stainless), and gun stainless is far from it. Pistol stainless can still rust.

Compared to the regular blued finish, there's more of chance the blue will wear off and rust (or even rust through) because it's not very durable. If you take melonite or hard chrome they will have less chance of rusting (unless the finish wears off which is harder to do because it's so tough) because they will not rust unless they ARE worn off. Stainless does not have to wear off to rust. This is referring to tenifer on glocks which is supposed to be the same as the melonite on the xd45's. Tennifer/Melonite (if it's the same) IS supposed to be more rust resistant than stainless:

Quote:
The slide, barrel (inside and out), and most other major steel parts are Tenifer coated, a process which gives them an incredibly hard surface and is more rust resistant than stainless steel.

Here's a few more statements on stainless rusting:

Quote:
What finish is recommended on my Baby Eagle pistol (steel models) for damp conditions?
It depends on the price you are willing to pay, on the low dollar end it would be the Matte Chrome or Brushed Chrome and on the high dollar end either of the Titaniums. Please do note that any finish can rust including stainless steel, but with proper periodic maintenance and cleaning after each use you should not have any problems.

Quote:
I once rusted several parts of a stainless steel pistol while carrying it concealed over a period of a week in our hot Arizona summer. Applying a TAF-1 finish not only made the pistol less conspicuous, but it also prevented any recurrence of the rusting problem.

As long as i take care of the pistol and use armadillo or silicone wipes i should be ok correct? It will just be a range gun. It will never be carried. I got the stainless because it looked better to me and i thought it was more resistant to rust. Can all guns rust or is this just an XD problem? Am i making a bigger deal than it really is?

All guns can rust, though some have had more problems with the XD (pre-.45) than usual. Don't worry too much about the gun...it's pretty sturdy and rust-resistant. My bitone XD45 is a carry gun, and I know I can trust it.

As Saltysquid said, stainless is rust resistant not rust proof. There are a lot of formulations of stainless with various degrees of resistance.
