Is it just me or does this whole subject seem odd? I mean this is the 21st century and we are talking about having new guns coated because of rust problems. Today, I found a bunch of rust on an XD40 that was well cleaned, oiled and stored in a dry place. I'm sorry, but I don't have this problem on my Glocks, Sigs, HK's, Rugers, CZs, Beretta's or even Taurus. IMHO this is a big problem even if the XD's are less expensive than some of their competitors.

Stock finish and lovin it

I have an XD 9 tactical. No frills, no special finish... No visual signs of rust in about a year now. That blue wonder armadillo and a light wipedown with oil is keeping it looking good.

Until they start making guns out of something other that metal, expect a little rust. That's what metal and Oxygen does. You can spend a million bucks on a gun made by the best manufacturer in the world, it will still go through corrosion. Even if you don't see little brown rust spots, it's rusting. It may take some guns a few hundered years (if properly cared for) to show substantial signs of corrosion, but sooner or later it will.

That being said, I will probably frown pretty hard when my gun shows it's first visble signs of rust.

I have a 45 ACP Service, and have yet to see any rust....in or out...I do clean and lube her with Gunzilla, and regularly wipe a silicone cloth over her, but I do the same with all my pistols....what is up with all these rust problems I am seeing here.

Based on what the other folks posting here have said, you won't see much rust on your XD 45 ACP as it has an improved finish on it. Mine is an XD 40 Service, 18 months old, no rust anywhere on it. I use Collector by Breakfree as the final wipe after cleaning. This is a service gun - carry every day I work and shoot once a month (or more often if I'm doing cert/recert).

Sometimes I feel like we have to pretend the emporer is wearing clothes. I had mine hard chromed after I looked at the finish closer when I got it home.

Not an XD But

I don't have the standard XD finish. Mine is an XD-45ACP'er in melon undercoating. No probs so far.

However, I do have a CZ PCR. The pistol is great - except the painted on finish. It is starting to bug me. No rust - chipping and scratching.

The painted on finish is meant to be some sort of polymer improved paint - I don't even think CZ likes to call it paint.

In the future I'm going to have to have it refinished.

Is duracoat like the finish OEM from CZ. If so I think I'd just have it chromed. With the alloy frame I think it would be hard to blue - like aluminium frames - no one likes to mess with them to blue or anodize (sp?).

And actually, it is the frame that chips and scratches the most on the PCR - besides the takedown/slide retainer switch/pin. No problems with the slide really.

Guess I should be happy it isn't rusting.
