I'd have to see an XD with Black Chrome before I'd even consider it.

I agree, especially if doing concealed carry. Even if I did decide to go with that type of look I think hard chrome looks MUCH better than stainless.

thanks for your thoughts...

jimithing,

You can always get a "vapor bag" and keep you XD in that. It shouldn't rust/corrode after that.

Ive talked to springfield about my rusting concerns before, and they said if I ever have a problem, just send it in and they will refinish it for free if its the manufactures fault. And guess what I silicone my gun with a silicone wipe once a month and ive never had a problem. O ya springfield will also hard chrome it for you:

Cost to hard chrome all of the metal parts of the XD subcompact model would be $145, plus return shipping and handling of $25 when the work is complete.

So they outsource the work and then upcharge you 50% on the cost then ding you for return shipping. No thanks! I know for a fact that APW Cogan used to do finishing work for Springfield, although I'm not sure who does the custom finishes for them these days. The wise thing to do would be to go with APW or Tripp for hard chrome, sidestepping S.A. as the middle man.

Then again you can just care for it properly and it won't rust. There are a lot of weapons that will rust, just keep them clean and oiled and it won't be a problem. If I carry my pistol I always wipe it down before I turn in for the night. If I shoot it I clean it the first chance I get. If it gets wet I wipe it down ASAP. It may just be my military mindset but I believe in the saying 'Take care of your weapon and it will take care of you.'
