Preventing rust on my new XD40

I just got an XD40, and was surprised to find out about the rust problems. I am told that the finish is something like parkerizing.
I have used either Boeshield T9 or Shooters choice rust prevention spray for years and have found those to be very effective. Just spray the metal slide and other metal parts, wipe em off and let it dry. The plus side of parkerizing is that the finish holds these sprays like a sponge
I am probably going to duracoat the slide though, just in case.

YORGI, I have had my XD-40 only for a week, and was wandering what to do to help keep it looking as new as possible. It is going to be my primary C.H.L. arm. What does that DURACOAT do?, does it just seal and protect the surface or does it also reduce the friction points to?.

Randy, I understand that the Duracoat acts to seal the gun and protect it from rust. It is self lubricating but I think it requires some added lubricant. http://www.larsontactical.com/id15.html Try this link for a summary of its properties.
The real advantage is that you can buy a can of this stuff on the web or from shotgun news and do it yourself. I will post on my results.

Duracoat is like a paint finnish, but on steroids.

As far as keeping the rust monkey away, just take care of your gun. Clean and protect it. regular, properly spaced maintenance, wheather you have fired the gun or not is what is required.

All metal rust's, unless properly cared for.
