Rusting question....
I was just needing to get some ideas from you all about a rust problem I am having.
A buddy and I went fishing on the gulf last week. We both have XD9 subcompacts. We took mine on the boat every day and his in the truck. My pistol was never in the water other than a wet hand taking it in and out of the boat. I coated (pre trip) it with a rust inhibitor that I have used many times before. I re coated it on day #2. When I got home last night I noticed some rusting on the slide, beavertail, and end of the recoil rod. My buddy's who stayed in the truck the whole time was a lot worse... Any idea on what to do now? Should I have them re-finished or "live with the little rust pittings"? Thanks |

When I saw how bad the finish was I sent the slide off for hard chrome and have never regretted it.

A tool has to be properly taken care of. You had it in a salty humid enviroment as did your friend. Clean them off and next time maybe try a different protector.
Some here use clp, some use car wax, some use Blue Wonder Armadillo. I use the Armadillo wax, I have "acid sweat" that would cause light discolorations on the metal. I started using the armadillo and no more problems due to my sweat. Your results may vary. |
