Rust on hardware on the polymer reciever?
I just bought my first handgun just over two weeks ago. I have been to the range with it once. Only once because later that week I was in a motorcycle accident... so it will be some time before I am able to shoot again.
Anywho, after I got back from the range, I used a cleaner to clean every nook and cranny I could get to after field-stripping the XD40 service. I then followed up with liberally applying gun oil to all metal surfaces. Even when I would pull the gun out of its case to look at the gun... It is a beautiful gun, I would re oil the outside metallic surfaces to protect it from rust. Now the pins that are on the polymer frame show surface rust. What is going on? Do I have to do a detail-strip just to get at those pieces? I would consider having all those fudging pieces plated just to have some peace of mind. Any suggestions?

I never had the roll pins rust, just the slide and the control levers. I had them refinished while the gun was back at SA for some other work, and haven't had a problem since.
You might try, after getting the rust off of them, applying a wax of some kind. Since the pins are recessed in the frame a bit, you might be able to get a good heavy coat of Blue Wonder Armadillo, or Johnson's Paste Wax on them to prevent them from rusting in the future. Good luck!

It probably is not rust. The pins have a reddish color.

When I bought the gun I had noticed that the "pins" (hardware) visible on the outside of the frame had a really dull, dark, gray finish.
Only 5-6 days later did they develop a reddiesh color-- I could get just a little of the reddish stuff off with toothpicks and cotton swabs. So, I am pretty sure it is rust.
