As far as cleaning an XD in water, if you do a search, which I am too lazy to do, you will find that SA themselves said you can clean the XD in a Simple Green solution. The trick is getting the water out. Compressed air works good. That is what I use. Then I oil the appropriate parts.

It's a joke son!!!
Dang! That's what I did wrong! I washed mine in the clothes washer. It sure made a lot of noise when I put in in the dryer though.
Just kidding. :P I don't see any benefit of cleaning a metal gun with water. Besides half the fun of owning a gun is cleaning and fondling it.

Guys, come on, in the dishwasher?, that is a new one for me. What happened to the good old cleaning kits from the gun store and a stack of old newspaper for the mess?. Water and metal surface?, rust is a chemical reation from the metal oxidation because of the moisture.

I am having trouble with the *thought* of getting water near my XD's, yet alone putting them IN something like the dishwasher. I've never heard of cleaning your firearms with any household appliance. I'm hoping, really hoping, that what you read was a joke and that no one really subjects their XD's to a water-filled environment (like a dishwasher) on purpose.
+1 to the suggestions on removing the rust issue. Really fine steel wool from Home Depot, etc along w/ some oil should work if nothing else does. Good luck!

I have been into guns since I was about 5 and been cleaning them since I was 7 and this is the first time I have ever heard of anyone cleaning their gun in the dishwasher. No offense to anyone here but come on.
