shooting in the rain...

I did some shooting in the rain this weekend, and learned two things:

1) Shooting in the rain is just like shooting when it's not raining, except there's a lot more water involved, and...

2) XD's will NOT instantaneously dissolve into a pile of rust if water touches it.

Just thought I'd let y'all know about my observations...

Just curious, since you were shooting in the rain are you just using the XD grip or do you have a rubber grip on it at all? I guess for either, how did it feel in your hand when wet?

To be honest, the XD didn't get completely drenched. I was using the old style XD Gear holster, and as it was somewhat sheilded by my arm, it didn't get too too wet. That said, no, I have no sort of supplimental grip on my gun, and to the extent that it did get wet, it didn't make much of a difference.

My Buckmark did get completely drenched though, and it continued to work perfectly. The grips are fairly rubbery and grippy.

I'll take this moment to put in a good word for RemOil. Yes, the stuff dries, BUT as soon as the metal got wet where I had applied it, the water beaded up and got slung off, the lube staying in place. I'll keep using it.

Maybe when I get to the point of wanting to do a full detail strip of my XD I'll try some sort of mean "test" involving water.

Maybe...

Well, that's good to know!

I've planned for a while to escape this ungodly cold, here in Reno, and go shoot the Western States Single Stack match in Mesa, AZ, this weekend.

The weather is slated to be about 60 and raining the entire weekend!!!
Just my luck, huh?

We'll see how 1911's like the wet!

I have shot my XD-40 Service in the rain more times that I can count.

Yes, we have no rust...we have no rust today.

Thank God for CLP.

Thanks for the post. Now at least I know that I'm not the only one who shoots in the rain. Afterall, we wouldn't want to be accused of being fair weather shooters.

When I teach concealed carry classes or firearms instruction we shoot outdoors regardless of weather. Bad guys come out in foul weather too. Be prepared. You will fight like you train.
