I keep my guns in foam cases but I put a lot of silica cat litter in panty hose in each one and I think that helps. Plus they are wiped with oil and a silicone cloth before they go in there

Foam cases hold moisture and WILL rust your gun if you dont properly store the gun. I take all of my gun cases, factory and after market and I spray a VERY liberal coating of dry silicone spray into them. I renew this about once a year and I have never had a problem.

CLP can be found in most gun shops and sporting goods stores. Really good stuff...

Another fan of CLP Breakfree here, it is what I use on all of my firearms. I picked up a pretty worn 1911 and it cleaned that sucker up in no time!

Seriously, $3 for a silica dessicant is money well spent. I have them in every ammo box, safe, or pistol case I own. It get's really humid down here and they need recharged about every 2 months, but a small price to pay for the great work they do considering they last forever!

A little CLP and a nylon brush might do the trick, the rust looks really light. If you do use steel wool, get the ultra fine grade. Rub lightly but a lot, don't rush it and push hard just to save time.

Oil on an exterior wiped clean off is a good idea as well

I'm not sure which is more abrasive flitz or 0000 steel wool, but I'd try some really fine steel wool first.

i was thinking about coating my slide and barrel with carbon raptor. (we use it on race motor parts) impossible to wear the stuff off, and it looks cool in shiny black.
