Barrel Cleaning
While I'm not sure if this belongs in the "Rusty Tales" area, this is where I found most information about cleaning.
I tend toward regular cleaning. I occasionally inspect my XD for lint/dust and remove it with a lightly oiled patch followed by a dry patch. After my range time, I will clean the entire firearm and lightly oil it then wipe down with a clean dry cloth. A little discussion between me and my regular range partner has come up regarding my use of a particular bore cleaner, Remington 40-X. Any time I have fired the weapon, I use this product and my bore brush (bronze). I follow it up with oiled patches until they come out clean and then a dry patch. My partner's statement was that this type of cleaner could damage the bore of the weapon with regular use. Is there any truth to this statement from anyone's experience? Is there a better product or process?![]() Some pictures of my barrel: http://www.pheniks.net/wp-includes/i...breach_end.jpg http://www.pheniks.net/wp-includes/i...muzzle_end.jpg Last edited by pheniks; 08-10-2009 at 06:07 PM. Reason: add barrel picture links... |

CLP, boresnake, toothbrush, silicon cloth, can of compressed air (blow out trigger area after cleaning), pretty much somes up my prefered tools. I clean after range time and check my carry weapon regularly (clean, oil, silicon the outside).
