Another solution..
Someone brought this product up in another thread somewhere. Anyway I went to Sears and picked up a can of T-9. It's kinda expensive ($20) but hopefully it'll do it's job. It was developed for airplane parts.
You spray it on and wipe it off. It leaves a waxy film on the part. If you want heavy duty protection you just leave it on. I am going to use it on my barrel hood since I started developing surface rust. I polished the hood last week and there was no protection on it whatsoever.

I've heard good things about it. I'm hesitant to use anything that turns into a wax, grease, or other solid, as it can seal in moisture and fingerprints.
Whether this stuff does it or not, I don't know.

Not a month update but I did shoot a 1000 rounds on Wednesday. It's Saturday and I just cleaned my gun. The hood has been rust free even after touching the hood several times with dirty and sweaty hands. I didn't see any build up of gunk.
Kingslayer, it's all in the prep. I wiped down the metal with denatured alchohol before applying the spray. I made sure not to touch it. It was a quick on-off. I sprayed it on the hood and wiped it off. There wasn't any residual spray left on the barrel hood. So far so good. I'll update in about a month. Whatever is protecting it doesn't feel waxy. Remember, this was made for airplanes... |
