And yes some peoples Xd's are prone to rust, but when you don't take care of it like any other blued gun, what do you expect?
the last few weeks have been around freezing and the gun was oiled pretty good becasue i use it for a car gun but it still should have never did this.I had my other gun i traded in my car for long poeriods of time, way much longer and never had a bit of rust. Its not that i dont take good xcare of it , its just a poor finish IMO. My S&W 915 stayed with me in my car for many years only oiled once a month and it's finish was stock blue from the factory and no rust what so ever . Just wondering why it is so prone to this?

I've used this stuff a lot and it never dawned on me to use it on my XD! I've used T-9 to protect the aluminum parts of my folding kayak (aluminum frame) from salt water - works great.

I would suggest applying it liberally so that it soaks in to the porous XD finish. It will dry to a non-oily coating. The spray works better at getting into tight areas and although it does have dry lube properties, I think of it as a moisture barrier and not a lube.

I feel your pain, I owned an XD9 and it too rusted on me just from carrying it all day in a IWB holster. My GLOCK is the only gun I have had that can stand up to my sweat without me having to do much to it.

I cleaned it up and sold it.

However, when the XD .45 ACP comes out, and if it's grip feels the same as an XD9, I will get one in a New York second. The XD is a GREAT gun, the finish was my ONLY complaint.

I have been waiting for so long for a double stack .45 to come out that will fit my hands, I am sooo hoping it is everything that I have heard it to be. This time, I will get it Duracoated and be done with it.

Yes, you are in the minority. You are in the minority of people who don't take care of their weapons. Touching your gun, shooting your gun, then throwing it in your car for two weeks in humid weather is NOT taking care of your gun. Your gun rusted for the same reason everyone elses does.

Lack of maintenance.

Argue it all you want but guns that are properly taken care of do not rust.

I bought my new XD9 in December, about 6 weeks ago. It's been to the range twice and was thoroughly cleaned, lubed and a coat of Sheath applied to the slide. This morning I took it out of my gunsafe and the slide was covered in spots of rust! Also, the black finish has gone from semi-gloss to a dull, almost 'phosphate'-type finish. When I rubbed the slide, the clean cloth turned brown.
My 2 year old XD-40, otoh, which I've used in IPSC matches in the rain, has a slide that still looks as good as new...dark black with a nice sheen to it.
This is really upsetting, as I do take care of my guns. I have NO doubt now that Springfield has a problem with rusting slides...I didn't believe the stories before, and put it down to poor maintenance.
What to do?
