XD 45 GAP LE Rust/Corrosion?

Just picked this gun up... about 4 years old?

Original thread and pics here.

NJ Gun Forums.com - New pickup. XD 45GAP LE

What can I do to remove the rusting.
Also, anything with serial numbers that can tell me build date?

The rust issues are covered under warranty by Springfield contact them and I'm sure they would be happy to refinish the gun.

Thank you guys. Any advantages or disadvantages to shipping it to Springfield vs trying to do by self?

You'll end up saving time and probably money if you ship it to them than you would if tried to restore it yourself.

called them today. took no more than 5mins on the phone. Told them I had an XD 45gap, stored in safe in their box, corrosion.

Simply replied, mail it in. Expected turnaround 2 to 3 weeks.

If it was just the slide, to just mail in the slide, but since I saw some rusting on the grip safety, agreed would be best to mail in the whole firearm.

When you mail it in the original case... do you get the case back?

Yep, just put the case inside another cardboard box and ship it Federal Express Overnight (it's the law for a complete gun). You will get it back better than new.
