That pretty bad rust. Did you oil the gun before putting it in you car? Might want to consider sending it in to Springfield.

Was the gun in the glove box for a few weeks straight, or did you take it out? And was it in a holster? If you handled it much you could have got some moisture/body oil on it, though I wouldn't think enough to do that so fast. The glove box in my isuzu got damp, I think because of the heater core being behind it and having a slight leak. I would definitely call SA. You should make sure you keep your gun oiled, and I also wipe mine down with a silicon cloth after handling it.
ETA: Where do you live that the glovebox isn't considered concealed? I wasn't so lucky here before I got my permit.

In some areas of the country that's going to happen. And since we don't know where the OP lives......

I live in Kentucky. Over the past few weeks we have had some bad weather such as snow and Ice. I'm thinking it has something to do with condensation. I do leave this gun in my car at all times considering I have a convicted felon that lives in the house. Yes here in Kentucky firearms located in glove compartments, locked or unlocked, are not considered concealed. Another thing if you rub your fingers over the rust it appears to come off quiet easily. Tonight I'm give it a good cleaning and see how that works out for me.

That's what I was trying to figure out myself, but now I realize you were saying you kept it in the car because of having a felon in the house.

Also that looks like mild surface rust really not that hard to remove, any decent CLP will remove it. Also I would wipe it down with eezox also next time. Have mine in my glove box for 6months and not a single rust spot |
