Storing gun in factory case. Rust starter?

I just purchased an XD.45ACP, and I think it's a great gun. I've put 200 rounds through it in 2 days and have cleaned it after each session. I live in Florida a high humidity, high temperature area.

The gun came with a nice plastic case, foam lined, and fitted for the pistol and the other gear.

If I store the XD in the plastic case, will the foam lining trap moisture and cause the slide and/or other parts to rust? I believe the foam is a closed cell type, but I'm not sure.

I would hate for my trusty pistol to become a rusty pistol!

Just include some dessicant packets, and you're good to go. I wouldn't worry about it.

Some foams can pull the oil off so wrap it in a silicone rag.

Years ago in my first gun safety course the LEO/instructor said to never store a pistol in a closed case. He said it was better to pop the lid open and put it on a shelf that way.

Im not sure about that. Sure if you place something wet in the case closing it and storing it for a few months may not be the smartest idea. But, keeping it open could expose it to a humid climate.

Pops always told me to keep your cases cracked open just a smidge. I do and have had no problems.

For my my tool box, I had a set of taps and dies that could rust. They had a similar foam sheet that laid on top of them under the lid. I sprayed a LIGHT film of oil on the foam and never had any problems. Might be something to consider. But you don't want all your stuff in that case oily. Might not work for a gun on second thought.
