Frame Spring Rust?
Hey,
I cleaned my XD9 by de-greasing it in the sink with water. Anyway, I usually let it sit in front of a heater/fan to dry, but forget and left it out to air dry. Now I notice the tiny metal springs inside the frame have a brownish rust color to them. I dipped a cotton swab in gun oil and ran it over one and orange rust came off a little bit onto the swab. Should I be concerned about this? What should I do now that there is apparent rust? Should I just not worry about it or should I try to do a detail strip? I've never done a detail strip so I'm not sure of how to even go about it. Let me know what my options are. Thanks. |

Here is a link that will show disassembly details: Springfield Armory XD and HS2000.com
I would take it all down and see if you can remove the rust. If you can't renew 'em, I would probably buy some replacements from Pistol Gear.

What can I use that would double as a punch as I don't think I have one. Any other tools I should pick up before attempting? What is the best way to remove the rust or should I say the best solution to soak them in?
I won't void my warranty with SA if I do this will I? Last edited by JakeCourtney; 02-14-2009 at 11:59 PM. |
