XDm stainless slide shows rust spots
I have been wearing my two tone xdm in a off duty belt holster every day for the last 3 months and recently noticed there were specs of rust like spots on left side of the slide (which is nearest the body). I also have a xd9sc blued which I carried for almost a year and have not noticed any rust at all.
Isnt stainless suppose to be more rust resistant? I guess i'll use some breakfree and try to rub the rust spots off. I can post some pics if anyone is interested.

Rust resistant but not rust and/or salt corrosion proof. Personally, I would polish it up real good with a rust preventative oil.

it seems to me that the melonite finish is more resistant to rust over the stainless.

The stainless steel used in most firearms is a 400 grade stainless which will rust a bit when exposed to salts, etc. BTW, 400 series stainless steels are also magnetic, which makes it real simple to confirm.
The good news is that the rusting process es extremely slow, there is probably a 200 to 1 ratio, or more, in rate of corrosion between 400 stainless and mild steel. It's also VERY easy to clean up..
Next time your in an Auto Zone or other Auto parts store pick up a can of Eagle One Never Dull Magic Wadding. It will wipe that rust right off. It will also clean up heel marks on motorcycle exhaust parts, road tar from chrome, oxidation and water spots from aluminum, cleans silver, cleans brass, and also gunpowder residue from the front of the cylinder on a Stainless Steel revolver. I now use it to "dry" clean my S&W 67 revolver after a range session and even run it thru the bore. The stuff really is magic and it's non abrasive. With heavier deposits like road tar, heel marks, or burn residue you do have to give it some time but it's more effective than any other cleaning product that I have ever tried.

I used CLP and managed to wipe more of the rust specs away. Thanks Scooter for the tips!

Personally, I stay away from steel wool. It leaves iron deposits behind and they rust, true for finishing wood as well.

On my BBQ forums they recommend only cleaning your stainless steel cooking grates with brass brushes and never use steel brushes. Play safe and put some powdered Comet on it then lightly rub with a wet cloth until the rust is gone.
