Pennsylvania Groups Push for Gun Theft Reporting, One-gun-a-month Laws

CeaseFirePA, an organization that works to reduce gun violence, gathered with residents, local law enforcement and victims of gun violence yesterday at UPMC Children's Hospital to urge revival of legislation that it said could help take illegal guns off the streets. One bill, which would have prohibited purchasing more than one handgun a month, was defeated in the state House Judiciary Committee.... [Post-Gazette (Pittsburgh), via gunpolicy.org ]

So is this how you got your 1,000 posts?

Unfortunately Pittsburgh and Philadelphia politicians have been pushing for stricter gun laws for years, but every other politician in Pennsylvania is opposed to stricter gun control.

The one/two/three or however many gun a month provision is much more harmful to legal gun owners and collectors than the report your firearm stolen provision. I know many people that often go to gun shows or shops to pick up several receivers for hobby builds or will come across deals too great to pass up.

Imagine that one of a kind custom 1911 on consignment for a steal, but you've just sold your old hunting rifle and bought a new replacement this past month.

This legislation will kill the gun industry, the local shops, and gun shows. All of them make a good amount of money from people that make multiple purchases, and this legislation would require people to perpetually put firearms on layaway until the next month.

I can see it now. People will have guns that are completely paid for and being held at gunshops for 29 more days until they can pick it up, gun shops will have to start charging storage fees since they'll have so many firearms that are sold but still sitting on the shelf.

I am not sure Pittsburgh being a severely bankrupt city would spend the funds to get a bill like that through.

It's not necessarily the city, but the liberal politicians in it.

More of the liberal politicians come from Eastern PA though. Montgomery, Bucks (isn't as bad, but not 100% supportive of gun rights), Chester, and Philadelphia counties are the worst of the state IMO.

It's going to take more people voicing their disagreement with these bills.

My biggest complaint about the politicians who bring this crap up is they are elected to represent the people and the majority of people in PA don't want more gun control, regulations, or limitations.
