conflicting desires S&W or XD

short back story, just traded my xd40 sc for a Smith & Wesson 649. Didn't want to, but my wife wanted THAT gun out of the house. Now I want another SC, and am thinking of trading my Glock 36 for an XD9SC. However, there is some interest from someone else in trading the same G36 for a LNIB 340 airlite. This is the very gun I have wanted for longer than any other gun ever (still new to guns BTW).
If I get the 340, I have to move the 649. If I get the XD, I'll still want the 340, but I love sc XD's. And 9mm is still somewhat reasonable to shoot.
Unfortunately getting both is not an option, otherwise I wouldn't have a problem. Either one will be a CCW piece when all is said and done.

I bet I can guess the outcome of this thread ... The majority is going to say XD, if not everyone. I bet if you post this on a S&W forum, I bet I'll know the answer. So what do I win?

Why did the wife want the XD40sc out the house in the first place?
Or if you don't want to tell us, why would she let you (that's embarrassing in itself)
have an XD9sc in the house?

I think you should have bought a 642 instead of a 649.

Shooting 38sp +P is plenty a recoil in a j-frame.
I've shot a j-frame 357mag, recoil is ridiculous..
But if your heart is set on the 340 airlite, by all means get it.
I know when I get an itch for a certain firearm, I really want that certain firearm.

I like both my XD9sc and my 642.
But if I had to chose, I'd take the XD9sc.
It is my daily carry in cooler weather..

Why would she make you sell the xd40sc? Why do you think she wants the xd9sc if she wouldn't let you have the same exact gun in a different caliber?

I vote revolver so you won't have to turn around and sell it =)

On a side note I know a woman who once hurt herself shooting a junk .380 and now she absolutely refuses to shoot a .380 in any make or model cause she hates them all lol.

Get both, use the S&W as a back-up.

I had to get rid of the xd40 because we bought it when a neighbor was stalking her, so everytime she saw the gun it reminded her of why we bought it. She actually likes guns, and has no problem with the XD itself, just that one particular gun.
It makes my life a lot easier when I run the idea of a new gun by her before I get it home. She has said yes every time so far. She just wants to be included in the decision, which i didn't really do with the xd40.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me !!
