Old signs were good old steel. Many new signs are aluminum.

And if you look closely you can see light through a couple of holes in the bottom of the sign.

And I agree that the picture has been altered to obtain a certain look. And the sign may well have been moved or placed there just for the photo.

But I have very little doubt that the sign has been used as a target.

Even Canadians shoot at signs... or perhaps the Quebec hunters had too much Molson and thought they spotted a Moose...

Agreed. A drive down any remote (or not remote in some areas) road could yield many many signs exactly like the one pictured above. I voted real simply because I've seen it. If not, it's a good photochop job and a waste of time.

Sign is probably real. Bullet holes are probably real too. However, that stop sign image has been transplanted onto a nice landscape photo. As said before, no light shining through the holes and what an idiotic place for a stop sign.
