I would probably prefer it being more socially acceptable to open carry, though I think I'd continue to conceal regardless. I'd actually like to see a mix of both in society.

My reason for this is because there is an inherent crime deterrence in the knowledge that there are people with guns around who will provide swift and certain consequences. Open carry provides that. However, open carry could also place those who open carry in a perpetrator's center of attention and potentially in greater danger (meaning open carriers could be an obstacle to overcome rather than a deterrent.)

If there was a mix of individuals open carrying and concealed, the open carriers could provide the initial deterrence and the concealed carriers could act as a backup.

Something like that.

I favor all forms of carry. I want the choice.

I would make a very large wager that if open carry in D.C. was legalized, violent crime would make a dramatic plunge downward.

i would not open carry, however i believe that it is a personal decision and i would not infringe on the rights of others, in this case. my values would compel me to vote in favor of open carrying...

I don't really like open carry.......but what I like less is pointless gun laws, so I'd vote NO on any anti-OC legislation.

I don't think any law should preclude open carry. However, I think doing so is stupid. You completely eliminate the surprise of a concealed weapon. If you are attacked by someone while OCing, they did so just to get your gun. I believe that they will take measures to disarm you first, even if that means an armed attack. Drawing your weapon on someone who clearly has the upper hand is downright stupid without the proper training...and going to one or two seminars on defending armed attacks doesn't cut it in my book.

EDIT: A bit off topic, and you can call me an anti if you want (I'm definitely not, however), but I do not disagree with requiring concealed weapons license. I have seen others on here post that they do not agree with a law requiring a CCW, but I still believe that opens the door to to many criminals. I don't mind being required to hold a license for CCW.

While I am against open carry for myself, I DO and WILL support it. I believe that the federal government should have no say in something such as open carry (or any other "daily" doings). Since it's not their job to tell us whether or not we can open carry, I think making it illegal is moronic.

You can replace open carry with any other dumb law the federal government feels the need to enforce. To me, it's not about what I personally think about the issue at hand, it's about whether or not it's right for me to tell others what they can or cannot do.
