carry at work?

ok, you don't have to comment if you don't want to, I'm just looking for opinions.

I work in a retail store that's not in the greatest part of town. I have my CCW, but my company has a policy that says we cannot have firearms on the property. We don't own out property, so I at least keep one in my car, but with a lot of crap that's been going down lately, I honestly feel like it might be better for me to carry while at work.

What would you do?

Can you survive and find a new job if you have to? In the event you get caught with your gun? If you can, then I'd carry. If you'd be in a big bind in that event, I don't know what I would do. But I think I'd still carry anyway, that is just me though. You have to do what is best for you.

Good luck to ya! Maybe you should just find a new job anyway if it is that bad. I know that isn't always easy though.

BK

edit to say that I don't know all the consequences in your state. Here in Utah, all they can do is fire you.

Depending on state and/or local laws, if you carry illegally and get caught, they could take away your carry permit. I, personally, would not risk it for this reason.

open carry city, with no sign saying "no firearms" for the customers. it's a company policy for employees not to have them. I do enjoy my job, but some of the customers really make me wonder, and there have been more and more shootings in town... even just a few blocks from where I work

Since I work on Norfolk Naval Base, I will be leaving mine at home.

What would you do?
The purpose of carrying a concealed weapon is to defend your life from deadly threats. If you feel that there are deadly threats on your job and you don't want to quit, then you do what you have to do. Your life is worth more than your job.

OTOH... you buck the system, you run the risk. You probably won't be jailed but you could lose your job and your CCW if you are caught. Losing your CCW could be a lifelong event so the risk is substantial.

If it were me and I was choosing to carry under these circumstances, I would almost certainly go with the absolute most concealable gun I could. I would probably carry a mousegun like a P3AT or LCP in my pocket in a pocket holster with a velcro closure sewn onto the pocket opening so that there is no chance that my pocket could open and the gun falling out or even that anyone could peek in there.

I would also be 100% silent about the gun and even that you have guns at home. Loose lips sink ships. I would draw a clear line in the sand... e.g. I only defend my life when directly threatened or that of a close friend/relative.

If you go and become a hero by defending the store and employees against armed robbery, you may save your company some money and they will reward you by firing you and then maybe letting the local judge know that you violated gun free zone and work policy and ought to have your CCW yanked. No good deed goes unpunished.

I carry at work, but we have no policy. I am one of the owner's. I made sure to keep it out of the handbook. My partners know, but have yet to notice me carrying. They think I leave it in the truck, lol.

Partially correct. You are only carrying ILLEGALLY if you carry onto school property, federal buildings, courthouses, police/county/highway patrol station, federal property post office or other place where it is a STATE or FEDERAL violation to have a firearm. Private property, even if posted "No Firearms", under almost every situation, does not constitute ILLEGAL carry.

You will not lose your permit if you are not carrying illegally. Cant happen.

You can be fired if at work against policy and removed and fined for trespassing if on privae property/businesses.
