Speer Gold Dot Advice
I've got an XD in 9mm, 4" barrel, unmodified (yet). Planning on feeding Gold Dots through it for HD, since they seem to be quite popular around here.
My problem is grain and pressure... I have zero idea which is considered "the best". Advice? |

For my 9mm's I prefer the 147gr rounds. They are still hauling ass (with the +P and +P+ rounds) and the extra mass is going to add to the penetration and knock down power of the round, not to mention it should add a hair to the overall expanded size of the round. I voted 115gr since thats what I carry the most. I also use 124gr...124 is a good 'mid way' weight. Try some 127gr Winchesters too...

I use 124Grn +p in all my 9mm handguns. The ballistics tests look good on it. And I figure the mid-weight bullet gives me some mass to use and the +p pressures give me back the velocities I loose by going to the heavier weight bullet.

Go with what is most accurate in your gun. That being said, if all things are equal...a good, big guy will always beat a good little guy.

I shoot 147gr exclusively for SD loads. Sometimes I pick up +P, sometimes not...I don't think there's a big difference in 9mm anyways. The few extra FPS you get with a +P load isn't going to make a huge difference at the end of the day.
I don't even notice any recoil difference between the two. I usually jus pick whichever is easiest or available.

The 124gr +p is the choice of many LEO agencies like NYPD and Omaha PD as well as others.
