Its rather interesting that among those that have submitted a vote that its a 50/50 split.

If anyone who has EVER worked fast food or in some other service type position (delivery, waiter/waitress, etc.) voted in this poll, I can almost guarantee that they DO tip. We know what it's like to be hustling and make squat as salary.

A big ditto to what edm24 said...the folks at sonic actually do some work and most check the order BEFORE it comes out to my car...

I have worked at a sonic. All the waitresses are paid at least minimum wage. That being said I will not tip at a sonic.

I tip whenever there's some type of personal service involved and the better the service, the better the tip. The places I refuse to tip are the places that just have a tip jar near the register like at some convenience stores.

Do You Tip at Sonic
Of course I tip at Sonic--and so should you if the service is good. They bring your food to the table. . .or rather to the car. They smile when they fasten the tray. They come back and pick up your leftovers and trash. Why would anyone think they were not as deserving of tips as inside waitresses or waiters?
If you don't want to tip for good service, go to McDonalds. What a bunch of cheapskates! Geesh. |

A tipped employee engages in an occupation in which he or she customarily and regularly receives more than $30 per month in tips. An employer of a tipped employee is only required to pay $2.13 per hour in direct wages if that amount combined with the tips received at least equals the federal minimum wage. If the employee’s tips combined with the employer’s direct wages of at least $2.13 per hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference. Many states, however, require higher direct wage amounts for tipped employees. |

Well, the sonic's in my area do not make waiter/waitress pay, they start at 9.00 per hour.
This said, you are not getting a tip from me for bringing my food to me. Besides it's just a fast food joint.
