Benelli M4: Help Me Decide!

Please help me decide! I really like both, but the new desert camo is very nice.

I plan on taking this to 3-gun competitions. Does the black get too hot in 100*+ weather? I have never had to leave a gun out in the sun

I kinda wish the camo had more going on though. It's quite simple.

Are you guys EBS (Evil Black Shotgun) fans or camo lovers?

THANKS!!!

P.S. > Is there anything better than an M4? What other high-end shotguns should I look at? The M4 seems to come out on top.

1) BLACK -- 11707

2) DESERT CAMO -- 11717

3) Other tactical semi-auto shotgun (EXPLICITLY LIST WHY PLEASE!!!)

My dealer has a Desert one in stock with the door breacher attached. Kinda looks like baby poop.

Black never goes out of style.

You know, that one statement is so true. You settled it for me in only 6 words. Thanks

The problem with the Desert Camo is that it is cool NOW because we are warring in the desert. If you keep the gun, and decide you do not like it down the road, you would have to change EVERYTHING. All new furniture and all!!! Also, I think black will always have a larger audience, therefore, better resale value if you have to ge off of it.

Let's put it this way. My dealer has been sitting on his Desert M4 for nearly a year. He has sold 10 black ones in that time. Attests to the lack of demand for the desert camo

You seem to be interested in it at least enough to ask your dealer. Do you own one? Do you like it? Would you say that it is "the best" semi-auto available? I know that is subjective, but opinions matter!

Both look nice, but I would have to go with the black. Black guns always look good.

I would buy a FN SLP over the Benelli M4 any day of the week. But if I had to choose between the camo and black I would get black. The camo is just to "toyish" looking. I dont think you will be happy with the camo.

The desert camo looks a lot better in a picture then it does in real life . I actually had a desert camo Mossberg 500 (breacher model) and I swear in a side by side comparison it had the same color/quality as the benelli!!! You would think Benelli M4 would have a little better quality control then a Mossberg 500 . Dont get me wrong, I was drooling over the desert camo Benelli when it was first introduced, but when I finally saw it in person, no thanks!! its to "toy" looking.

I will admit that I have never shot the Benelli M4, but when I was shopping for a police style auto loader,at the end it came between the FN SLP and the Benelli M4. I was actually dead set on buying the M4 for atleast 2 years, I just never had the money to go buy one.

I'll tell you the reasons why I chose the SLP over the M4. The high priced accessories for the M4 are outrageous, for example the collapsible stock and a extended magazine tube, those two items alone are almost valued close to what the M4 is worth. The SLP comes standard with a extended magazine extension, the SLP hasn't had many accessories for it in the past but I think that's about to change. If you look at FN's 2008 SLP line up you will see they are starting to broaden their accessories. This gives me more hope then the Benelli does. The next thing that weened me away from buying a Benelli M4 was watching all the you tube videos of it being fired. Video after video convinced me that that shotgun gives you a pretty bad beating on your shoulder and the muzzle flip is crazy. I kept trying to convince myself that "it has to be the shooter", but like I said, video after video convinced me otherwise. The final clincher was when I finally handled the M4 at Sportsman's Warehouse. The counter guy handed me the M4 and the first thing I noticed about it was it's weight, that sucker is pretty damn heavy. I don't know if its actually heavier then the SLP or just balanced differently but it is noticeable.

After buying the SLP I haven't had one regret, its actually a real pleasure to shoot. Its extremely quick, light, reliable and has an excellent over all finish on it. To me, the price for the SLP compared to the Benelli M4 was just a no brainer. I think the SLP is just as nice if not better then the Benelli M4.

So like I said, the Benelli M4 is a very good looking shotgun, but I don't think I would ever buy one. Don't get me wrong, even after my FN SLP choice, I still think the Benelli M4 is a super sweet shotgun.
