Dry Fire AR?
Is it ok to dry fire and AR ?
You know for trigger controll practice like on a pistol I know some guns you are not suppose to and others they say its perfectly alright. But Ive never heard one or the other for an AR Rifle. ?

isnt it part of the function check after assembly, or cleaning to dryfire the weapon?

Dry firing a AR will not cause any issues. As always it is best to use a snap cap. Why take the risk of beating up the trigger group & firing pin when for a couple of bucks use can get a snap cap. There is also this device as well.

The only guns you can't dry fire are rimfires.

That's not completely true. Some rimfires are perfectly fine to dry fire (my Anschutz and Savage are), and some centerfires are not (my Beretta Tom Cat had a big warning against it).

Voted yes, no snap caps needed. When in the Marines we would sit for hours in the various shooting positions before qual to refresh the fundamentals (lets not talk about the DAYS you sit in the positions in boot camp), I would dry fire my firearm several hundered times a year.
