Question Good trade?

So the opportunity to trade my XD45C MIGHT come up this weekend.

A friend in Washington is looking to trade his SA 1911A1 (GI) for a new 45. The 1911 is in terrific shape, only fired a handful of times, despite an early 90's serial number. It would come with 3 mags, a couple holsters and hague (sp???) rubber grips.

My XD45C is about a year old, has maybe 600 rounds fired through it, and has some holster wear on the top edges of the slide. I would include the regular XD gear and a Blackhawk CQC holster.

I really love 1911s and want one, but I can't afford to have both right now!

WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?!?

What would you do in my position?

It seems to me like you're getting a good deal. The SA 1911s are somewhat spendy, from what I've seen, and you're getting a nice load of mags and accessories.

If you want a 1911, I'd say do it.

The 1911 is very carryable, so you're not losing a Carry Weapon.

It's what you want, and you won't be happy with less.

Thanks! I am certainly not worried about concealability, as I am a pretty big guy and OC pretty much everywhere outside of work.

I would love to hear more opinions!

I am not biased towards XD's in any way. As a matter of fact, I own a Springfield TRP 1911.

However, I do not like the GI's. They are way too crude and basic. The sights are atrocious. The triggers are gritty.

Is this the actual GI repro model or what? My friend just sold his Springy GI for $350.00.

Keep your XD and see what kind of cash he would take for his 1911. Believe me. A few years from now you will regret ever selling/trading any of your guns (unless it is a POS like the old erma et 22 I unloaded 20 years ago.)

I have regretted selling/trading most of the guns I got rid of.

You can come up with the cash. Even if you have to pimp yourself to some 82 year old lady. It will be our secret here on the forums and no one here will every mention it again, I promise!

But seriously, if you really want to make the trade do it. I agree with CommieHunter......"It's what you want, and you won't be happy with less."

Good luck with whatever you decide!

If you want a 1911 then I'd go for it. They're about equal value, plus you'll be getting a few mags with it and a couple holsters. So the way it looks, you'd be coming out on top of the deal. Plus it's a gun (style atleast) that you want. Seems like a win win to me.

You actually are losing some gun. The XD45 is 10+1 or 13+1 in magazine capacity. The 1911 is 8+1 with 8 round mags. You might be getting 7 round mags. As stated, the GI has horrible sights for a carry gun.

If you want a 1911, do it. If you want the better gun for a defensive carry gun, I'd say keep the XD.

Is that the trade from Patch? Me thinks I would keep the XD.

I want a 1911 too but I'm going to try and find a decent priced Loaded or something similar.
