Worst thing I did was trade my service for a compact. I couldn't shoot the compact with the compact mag. but the 12 round mag was fine, and I had to give up my nicely broke in service and 300 bucks for a gun that now resides at a friends house for ever.

I wasn't paying enough attention.

GI v Loaded or Operator or whatever does make a difference.

I'd say yes to the Loaded or the Operator or whatever has the rounded hammer, beavertail grip safety, visible sights, and a nicer trigger.

I'd think harder about the stock GI.

I've got a similar problem/decision. I have been thinking about selling my XD-45ACP Compact and standardizing on 9mm (I have a 9mm XD Subcompact and a 9mm XD Service). I have spent the past year firing my 9's pretty much exclusively. It would make my life a bit easier to just buy 9mm ammo.

My XD-45 was bought new last July, has only about 200 rounds through it and has Trijicon tritium sights (yellow rear and front green for contrast) installed by Trijicon's gunsmith. If I decide to sell, I would include the XD gear, a two 10-rd mags and four 13-rd mags. My original outlay was approximately $840+ in total.

It's really an agonizing decision...should I stay (keep) or should I go (sell)? Would $700 for it all be an appealing/reasonable price to buyers?

i like 1911s i have a kimber pro carry but there is no way in hell i would trade my xd for the kimber, im sure alot of you would like to slap me for that comment but i find the xd way easier to carry, way easier to shoot and is a lot more reliable. you also get close to double the amount of rounds (if comparing 7 rounder to a 13 rounder) i carry IWB at 1230 so the beavertail grip safety jabs me in the stomach when i bend over. but i can carry my xd45 service with zero problems

1911s are cool but the GI is way to basic. you would be better off selling the xd for a small loss and saving a couple hundred and getting at least a milspec but preferably a loaded or a good colt or kimber. the colts are more expensive and i think the sa loaded and the kimber custom II or the pro carry are all great deals and come with the parts that you should swap out anyways. my pro carry was $720 the custom II was $699 and i think the sa loaded is around $750

shoot them both side by side and if possible it would be great if you could swap guns for a week or so, a while back i wanted to trade my xd40 for a sig pro and luckily i was able to trade guns for a week and after that i decided the xd40 was never leaving my side

It's an older basic GI and I wouldn't personally make the trade.

I would trade in a split second, now I know it's a basic 1911 but hell I had a basic G.I. model and even the "crude" G.I. model shoots great. besides pay a gunsmith 60 bucks or so to re-cut the slide sights and put some sights in and your golden. want a bevertail? put in a wilson combat drop in,presto. trigger? hell even the G.I. trigger is better than the xd's stock trigger. I'd say do it man but ultimately its up to you. to me a stock G.I is really all I need in a 1911 the sights suck and those are the only thing I'd ever change if I changed anything and for self defense it worked through WWI,WWII,The Korean War,Vietnam, and a whole host of other conflicts what makes you guys thing a G.I. cant be a civilian CCW gun and work just fine as is. Now I love the xd it's the second best feeling pistol in my hand that I've ever held, wanna guess what the first is? anyways do what you want man I'm just sayin the G.I would be a good trade if you wanted
