Which is better in .308?

Ok guys... I want to get a rifle semi-auto in .308 caliber for hunting. So I need opinions on whether I should go with AR-10 platform, AK( Saiga-308 ) or if there is another suggestion. I am looking at a 20-22" barrel. Thanks for all your help and input!!

Ar-10

I have one 16 inch and one 20 inch about 150 FPS difference. The 16 handles like a race car the weight difference is not much but the weight of the 16 handles like it weighs nothing compared to the 20 inch. The accuracy is great in both guns. With some loads there is less of a difference in the velocity. The B.C of the bullet will play a bigger part of long range shooting that the velocity will. If you fire a 20 shot group or maybe a 10 shot group then the edge might go to the 20 inch. I say might because the shorter barrel has less whip that is why the Bench Rest bunch use a 20 inch barrel. My 20 inch has a heavy barrel the new guns do not. Each gun is different so it could go either way. Go with a NM trigger Armalite makes one that is to good made me buy the second one after I fired the first one could not help myself,

Thanks,Keith

I voted "OTHER"

My choice for a Bolt action would be a Remington 700

but my choice for semi-auto would be what I've had for the last 25 years, a Springfield M1A. $700. NIB, w/20 round magazine, 25 years ago.

A scoped M1A would be very nice. Look into the Springfields.

I have a Winchester Model 70 in 308. Got it from my dad after years of hunting, and it still works flawlessly. Love it.

All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting.
