I've had Glocks..... however, the first time I held an XD, I sold all 3 Glocks and purchased XD's to replace them... When you draw and point an XD it's on target already, nothing else needed. To me the angle of the backstrap on the Glock is not user friendly. I'm not trying to UPSET anyone of the Glock lovers, but it's not for ME... I don't need to train my hand to shoot an a weird angle, the natural angle of the XD wins for me everytime.

Long Time Glocker, First Time Talker.

I have owned a Glock 23 (.40 compact) for 18 yrs. It is the only pistol I own. I have shot many other models and calibers over the years but have enjoyed my Glock the most (not that I'm Glock snob).

I was intrigued with the safety features of the XD 40 (chamber and firing pin indicators, grip safety) so I tried one yesterday at the range. I was VERY impressed with it. I shot a nice tight group with it and found the sights to fall effortlessly back on target. The perceived recoil was slightly sharper than my Glock, mostly at the trigger, but not by a tremendous degree. Trigger break was crisp and the reset nice and short.

The XD was easy to shoot well for a Glock guy, which surprised me. The grip angle differs and I understand bore height is taller. I expected a different experience.

Glockers take a lot of dings on this site but it is important to understand there is a lot to like about Glocks. Glock pistol design and execution was revolutionary 20 years ago... so revolutionary, it unleashed a movement that caused ALL service pistol designs to be improved (both directly and indirectly). But like all movements, it only moved so far and then stopped. Thats a shame; Glock makes a great firearm, but it is not perfect. It is nice to see Springfield Arms continue to improve this medium of pistol design since we haven't seen any evolutionary changes from Glock for some time.

I understand the XDm defines the next generation of striker-style pistols. If it is even better than the regular XD, it will compel me to buy another pistol. And it won't be a Glock.

$.02 from a Glock guy...

I don't think Glock lovers have it hard here at all? You'll find that most of us own at least one It was a great innovation, but certainly no the first great service pistol. Not even the first polymor pistol. I got my Glock 22 in '95 Never had a problem with it, and Truley enjoyed it. The ergonomics sold me on the XD, ad have not regreted it. Truth is if I could afford it I would have them all

True that...

True, Glockers don't take trashings here like Ford fans would take on a Chevy site (or vice versa)... its much more like gentle ribbing from one club member to another.

I do realize that Glock wasn't the first plastic/polymer gun. I believe HK introduced plastic models ten years earlier to a bunch of yawns...

However, until the Glock came out, most "current" pistols were refinements of older designs. The Glock was a "modern paradigm" for reasons too numerous for me to communicate succinctly. Massad Ayoob covers this topic in many of his writings and is a much more credible source than me on any topic regarding firearms. My opinions are based on my limited experience. Know this though: I am a fan of handguns first and a fan of Glocks second (maybe third now).

There are many other CREDIBLE firearm historians out there that can more accurately define the Glock's contribution to pistol design/history. That's not my thing.

Bottom Line: I am a Glock owner who likes the XD and is a fan of Springfield Arms. If they made the new XDm in the USA it would make me all that more tingly inside.

Lastly: I agree with you- if money was no object I'd have them all, too!

Get what works best for you. They are both great and reliable guns. I prefer the XD, it's not better than a Glock but I like the grip angle better.
