Moto Riders...Input Please
So, I am going to get a bike for to/from work and such. (But it will see some trail action also). I am a beginner and this will be my first bike. I will poll you guys as to which I should get and please leave advice/input as I am very open to it at this point.

figure out where you going to spend most of your time on or off road the 400 is the most offroad worthy while that Versys 650 is not ment for much more than a smooth dirt road the KLR is an alright compramise.
I have a 2006 yamaha WR 450 uncorked and set up for hard core long distance off roading it is street legal but not a good pick for a lot of highway miles but very capable off road where i spend 80% of my time also check out honda 650"s and ktm"s 450 and 525 yamaha wr450 if you plan on more dirt if it is more street look at ktm big bikes 650's or bmw's depending on price taste and function

I have the non motard DRZ. It's tall & not great on the highway or in the sand. Everyplace else it's fun.
If you're looking at 99% road commuting, that Versys looks like a much better choice to me.

Thanks for the input...It will be primarily street, to and from work, but if I know me...and I do...cause I am me...I wont be able to contain my love of off road driving. So, it will need to be capable of light trail riding and such, but still street legal for Monday morning.

their name, achievements/history, durability, and performance give all the explanation you'll ever need....they are still 'A Breed Apart' and 'Its Easy on a Triumph'

I haven't ridden the current model KLR650. The one I did ride was very top heavy, and very tall. I'm 5'7" and could barely touch the ground.
I'm looking for a similar bike and the regular old DRZ400S, rather than the motard version, is on my short list.

For your first bike......
I would say get one that runs and is CHEAP. You are going to dump it, drop it, scratch it, drop it again, and who knows what else. Please do not purchase a new bike for your first. Kent

You sir are correct. I only wish they would have been around in '05 when I bought the DRZ. No contest. CA stopped letting us plate dirt bikes in '03 or '04.
