New gun dilema, need some advice!

Ok, so here's my deal. I have a S&W 629 that I am contemplating trading, depending on what kind of value I can get for it. Assuming i get good value for it (i have all of $20 invested in it so I am money ahead either way) I will trade it towards a new gun. I also received a $500 check for college graduation from my parents. I have had my heart set on an XD 45compact for awhile now and still really want one. But then today, the idea struck me, take the $600 i have in my wallet (i added 100 from my bank account), and add it to the value of the 629 and get a really nice 1911 (b/c i really want a larger 1911 for both carry and range). I am torn between just getting the XD, or putting the two together and getting a really nice gun. What would you do in a similar situation???

What kind of shape is it in? If it doesnt have the lock on the side plate I have a Springer Milspec Stainless 1911 that has some custom work done on it that I would consider trading accross the board.

It is NIB. Has never seen the outside of the gun safe, let alone a holster or round.

Trade the 629 for an entry level 1911 (you won't be disappointed by the Springfield GI or Milspec or the Rock Island Armory or work out the deal with bigun) then use your cash to buy the XD!!!

I voted for no trade, buy the XD. I've heard it here fairly often, "I wish I never sold/traded/lost/gave away/ate that firearm."

As a banker, I also suggest keeping the $100 in the account. $35 overdraft fees are no fun and I'm sick and tired of reversing them

Any interest in a trade? If so PM me and I'll send Pics of the Mil Spec.

What's the barrel length on the 629?
