New gun dilema, need some advice!

Each gun has its own purpose. I have 2 XD .45s and I would like to get a 629. The XDs are great for duty and carry. The 629 would be great for hikes in the mountains with the family in case of bear / cougar / snake.

The 629 has a 6.5" barrel. its stainless steel and has rubber Hogue combat grips

I agree, but with no mountains anywhere near me here in Indiana and not much hiking in my future, it doesnt fit my needs well, other than collecting. I'm more in the market for carry guns and possibly getting into some competition shooting (i play competitive paintball now and thats an every sunday commitment and most pistol matches in my area are on sundays as well).
