Sadly, I must add my XD40 to the list of rusties. For a long time I've been fine, but had it on my hip for a while this past Saturday, and the sweat did it. I now have rust on the back left corner of the slide, and the left side mag release button.

*weeping softly*

All came off with a little steel wool and some oil. Since then, I have kept the weapon clean and covered in a generous application of Armadillo. I have not seen any rust since and that has been months ago. I have to say, Armadillo has got to be the best product I have ever used to protect my firearms. I LOVE IT. Okay, that's it.
Where is the thumb safety on an XD? I keep looking and can't seem to find it on mine

Using steel wool on the finish of any gun is not a good idea.

Peace,
D.

There were times after matches where I leave them in my bag and I thought I would see rust for sure. It has never happened.

Perhaps if the ratios continue along the current path, SA will reevaluate the matter, or at least give specific instructions on how the slide should be maintained.

Do you keep any other firearms by your bed or even 'in' your home?

A bulk (not all) are in the basement, locked in a safe. With three kids, I am careful with where I leave them. If a BG breaks in, he better run faster than 1200fps.

Unfortunately, there is rust on my new xd9 tac.
I have only taken it out to the range twice, and I wiped it down.
I really like the gun....it is my first xd, but I was stunned when I opened the case and saw all of the little rust spots on the slide. I know I could have wiped it down better, but really, I have never had a gun rust up like that.
Nearly drove me back to glock
Now I am looking for a new finsh for it....any suggestions?

Note: I know of others shooters who have xds and never seemd to have a rust problem. I guess I'm lucky!

Closing: I still really love the gun though, I was salivating over it for a while.....

There's your rust problem. Never drool on your gun. Always drool on someone else's.
