I got an email telling me to ship the gun to them. If I am deemed worthy, they will refinish the gun and refund my shipping. If not, they will just ship it back to me. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Oh, and it rusted again yesterday after a day at the range. The other thing is, I get RUST. It's not the kind that wipes off easily, we're talking discoloration here.

I'm really not sure what I think so far. I know I'm not real happy having to plan on refinishing a brand new gun.
The Tactical is showing signs of surface rust. It wipes off with a little Tetra and elbow grease, but if I was pulling it out of the safe to show a friend I'd have been horrified. I haven't noticed anything since I switched to Tetra from the Hope oil, but I'm still waiting. On one hand I have three XD's that the wife and I shoot very well with that are inexpensive. On the other hand one of those guns I have had for less than two months and have had to wipe it down for surface rust twice now. The guns brand new and looks fine after wiping the surface rust off, but I shouldn't have to take that step before going to the range, or God forbid taking it out of the safe to show a friend. We have two SC's that there is no hint of rust. The finish wore off mine, but that's another story all together. I guess I'll be refinishing the Tactical and my SC.

When I purchased mine the dealer warned me that the base finish was on the weak side. I told him that I can just get it refinished if it starts to bother me.
I answered YES as I have found rust on my slide twice. Spent a hot morning at the range shooting other poeple's guns. My xd never saw daylight. Got home, put it in the pistol safe without thinking about it, like normal. Next morning there was a light coating of surface rust on the slide. Wiped off with just my hand. Did give it a good going over later (didn't have time as I was going out the door that day) to get the rest of it off. Didn't find much else. That's the only time I've seen any. The comments about there still being finish under the surface rust makes sense to me. Next time I give it a good cleaning I'll try the simple green cleaning as well. I'm not too concerned about it as the above is the only time I've seen it. And in Mn it's been rather warm and humid lately. The gun is carried in kydex under my shirt daily. Steelheart |

I am having a little bit show up, barely noticeable, on my SS. I'm thinkin about gettin refinished eventually, probably in hard chrome.

I've probably said this before on this list, but I'll say it again. I used Hoppes #9 and regular gun oil for more than 20 years until I discovered Eezox. I think it's just as powerful of a solvent as #9 (and it smells better, too). And as for rust, forgettaboutit. I think someone has already posted this, but you should look here:
http://www.6mmbr.com/corrosiontest.html I love Eezox! |

I voted YES, even though I've never seen rust on my slide.
I HAVE seen it on the barrel though, on the portion exposed at the ejection port. My FFL guy works with me, so during my waiting period everyone and their dog in the office wanted to see/rack my gun. It had probably been racked 100 times by the time I got it, with lots of fingerprints on it. The barrel had surface rust on it that wiped off with a CLP weapon wipe. Since then, I have kept a strict regimen of CLP, Blue Armadillo and Militec-1 on it, and no rust has reappeared.

Just like the previous poster, I had rust on my XD when I picked it up at the dealer. I bought the gun slightly used and the previous owner didn't even bother to clean it before shipping it to me. As in, it had been to the range, but NOT cleaned. I had some very minor patches of rust on the mag release buttons, the thumb safety, and a couple tiny spots on the slide. All came off with a little steel wool and some oil. Since then, I have kept the weapon clean and covered in a generous application of Armadillo. I have not seen any rust since and that has been months ago. I have to say, Armadillo has got to be the best product I have ever used to protect my firearms. I LOVE IT. Okay, that's it.

Not a speck of rust so far.
I keep it oiled down and stored with silica gel to remove any moisture while in the gun safe.
