If a big car company had as many paint failures on a line of warrantied cars similar to what SA's XD is goin through...they'd be sendin out recall notices...and be repainting free of charge....for fear of legal action. "I just bought the damn car and it's already rusting, but it's suppose to have a XXXX warranty.....if they don't fix I'm gettin a lawyer"
Even though everything might be top notch.....I myself purchase a firearm as I would a new car. If I take care of it, it should last for ages.....unless somethin is way wrong beyond normal maintaining.
I personally have never had any rust, but do agree the stock finish is fairly thin compared to even cheap shotguns. Yes you use it it's gonna get wear....the same with a car. It's gonna get dinged and scratched....but how many of us have walked out and went nuts over a scratch/dent on our car. Even though it's just a car....we still wash em, then wax em to protect the paint....shine the tires to keep em from crackin...polish the chrome to keep it shiney....change the oil to protect the engine...so on and so on.

I feel exactly the same with my "collectables" locked up in my safes.
If I take care of em....they'll be as good as new when the time comes to give em to my kids.
I don't see how hard it'd be for SA to contact the people in Croatia and tell em either to put a better coating on it.....or do it themselves at SA after the things are shipped overseas.
I'm startin to think the reason is they don't give a crap....they have our money in their bank.

I can honestly say i have most certainly not had a speck of rust on my gun. Im here in Houston, where temp changes from inside my house to the range are at least 15 degrees, and a hell of a lotta moisture in the air. Ill agree, i wore through the finish really quickly though, im down to shiny steel in a lot of places, but, as of yet, no rust.

I hate to say it, rust on the finger groves on my service bit-tone. Also on the Slide catch. It wiped right off. I have been carrying daily, and it get a little humid here in New Orelans. Still bums me out...

No rust

I bought my first ever gun in Jan 05 a XD 9 service since than I have added a XD 9 sub-compact and a XD 9 tactical I live about 20 miles from the ocean so we have thick fog on a regular basis I don't take any special precautions with my guns I clean them after each 2 times at the range wipe them with a silicone cloth as a last step and they sit in my range bag I have had no rust! but if I did I would sell the guns immediately and switch brands I think some of your loyalty is bordering on glockish one speck of rust and I am done!

I have had rust while using Break-Free CLP, Birchwood Casey Sheath, Blue Wonder XFR, and Blue Wonder Armadillo. The rust has been on the exterior of the slide, on the interior of the slide, and on the exterior and interior of the barrel.

I have had this rust on both bruniral and bi-tone models.

Even if you PAY to have your XD refinished, you still won't pay as much as you would for a Glock, you will have a better gun, and you have a lifetime warranty. Glockish loyalty would require you to deny there is a problem to begin with.

I have never had any more rust on my HS2000 than I have ever had on any of the Colts, S&Ws, Springfields, Rugers or any other type of gun I have owned.

I have always kept my guns wiped down with some good grade of gun oil and have seen specks of rust on everything at one time or another.

I answered yes because I have seen rust, but no it is not a problem.

Point taken I Love my XDs I sold a glock to by my sub 9 and would not buy another (glock) but when I bought my XDs brand new I looked at them as entry level guns (based on price) not fixer uppers

Two XD's, no rust, not an issue.
