Can I change my vote?

I started seeing rust on my slide these past few weeks. I've sent my XD back so SA can inspect the finish to determine if it's "defective".

I bought my XD 9mm service back in 2001.

This is a big concern. Looking at the current poll results, we have over 600 votes (a pretty good statistical sampling), and over 1/4th of all owners report having some rust issues on their slides.

Is it fair or true to say that the large majority of that 26% who report rust issues are people that owned the pre-Melonite slides? Or, are we still getting a fairly high percentage of users with rust even with the Melonite change that occurred in 2006?

I want to buy an XD soon, but the rust is one key concern that's holding me back.

I just bought my XD 45 a few weeks ago and it was this thread that convinced me to have it re-coated before it replaces my Sig for EDC. I would rather do it now than have to constantly worry about rust.

If anyone is considering a re-finish, check out Brad's work at http://www.ccr-refinishing.com/ He's gotten a lot of positive recommendations on another board I frequent.

My M16 gets rust on it all the time. I'm a reservist, and I don't get to clean it even once a month usually.

I just bought mine, but I hope I never get any. I plan on keep a nice layer of oil on it all the time.

I was reading a couple of the other threads but is the rust still an issue on the newer XDs?
