I can't remember how I voted, as I obviously have voted on this at one point. But, I have seen rust on my XD now. I went on a trip down to georgia, where the humidity is quite a bit higher than here... even though it's still humid where I live. Anyway I didn't trust leaving my gun in the hotel room while we were out and about, so I kept it locked up in the case in the trunk. The case wasn't a foam one so there wasn't much to hold moisture up against the gun. I had armadillo freshly put on it, and heavily too. When in my gun safe at home, I have one of those things the emits a vapor to protect against rust so it stays protected all the time. Anyway this trip, I saw rust on my gun start to form. it easily wiped off, but what worries me is I probably just wiped off the visible rust, and the rust that will continue to come around will always be on the finish now. I now have quit bothering to use armadillo and am just going to use CLP on the slide and hope rust stays away.

Pulled mine out of my safe after it sitting in there for two weeks and now it is rusted to hell. I oiled all the metal surfaces which got rid of the surface rust but left the finish dimpled from rusting.

Never had any anywhere on the pistol. It's used every shift (XD 40, service model) and been out is all kinds of weather in a duty holster. Nice pistol, easy to carry.

A question for those who have encountered rust on their XD:
Are you oiling the slide? The non-Melonite finish on the XD's is just like parkerizing. For all I know, it IS parkerizing. This finish does NOT protect the gun from rust. What it does is absorb oil, which then protects the gun. I've got several parkerized guns and I wipe down the exposed parts with oil, let it set for about 5 minutes, then wipe it dry. I do this every thime I clean them, or 3-4 months, if that gun's not being shot. Doing this, I've never had any sort of a rust problem with ANY of them. And the 870 Express has been out in some serious rain and snow storms....

Haven't had any rust issues with my 45 service, but back when I had my 40 service with the old finish I ran into rust a few times. One was when I was helping a friend house sit for a week and I didn't know the owners had a swamp cooler, talk about giving the xd a reason to rust.
