First, I always carry at least one spare mag when I carry and most often two. If I am carrying my 1911 then its always two mags, my Glock 17 then maybe only one.

I consider it flawed logic to think that you are only going to need X number of rounds. When I went through Thunder Ranch an number of years ago Clint Smith told the class that he couldn't tell us when or what the at would look like, only that it would come fast and when we would most likely least expect it. He also said that he could not tell us how many rounds it would take to end the fight. Something else that he said was that wolves traveled in packs more often then not.

Also, I have seen high-end expensive magazines fail on the range during a match. I have seen it happen to the professionals in the game where a magazine floor plate failed and dumped the entire mag full of rounds on the ground.

I have had a Wilson Combat 1911 mag have a catastrophic failure on the range and I consider them the best 1911 magazines money can buy. If a mag fails on the range or during a match, you may only loose the match. If it fails on the street in a defensive situation, you only have your life or the life of your loved ones to loose.

I don't ever want to be in a situation that I don't have a spare magazine whether its because I needed the rounds or that my primary magazine has failed so I always carry at least one spare mag. The consequences of not doing so is something I don't want to have to live with if it all goes bad.

Remember, s*&t happens. Don't ever trust your life to luck. If you are carrying a handgun then I don't see carrying a spare mag is not that big of a deal. Just my .02 cents for what its worth.

Nope, I carry a second pistol, either a PA-63, Makarov, or my Sauer 38H

Yes, I do. Ten rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber backed up by another 16-round magazine tucked IWB.

I typically don't around town. But, if it is winter and I am wearing a coat, or if I am outside hiking or something I usually do.

Not only do I like having extra rounds available, but I also feel more balanced with that weight on my offside. In fact, that's why I most often carry TWO extra mags.

IWB is a nice way to carry extra mags. I'm not one to say, "well if I needed more rounds, then I guess it wasn't in the cards". Screw that. I want to stack as many of those cards in my favor as I can.
