That is a different genre altogether. From the marketing scheme, it seems like they only intend on adding another line of gun, not replacing the current version. I prefer the looks of the current XD. If there are no performance advantages, I'd stick with the current model.

It makes me think of a hybrid of an XD, a Walther P99, a Walther PPS and a S&W M&P.

Why not? The first XD was a hybrid of a Glock and a 1911.

The new gun has the polygonal angles of a Walther P99 almost. Too much modern art in this gun, IMO. Aside from the exchangeable grip panels, there is nothing I like about this gun.
I only hope this doesn't eventually impact the whole line. Makes me want to buy a couple of extra "normal" XD's and pack them down in grease in case the future looks dark.
