I like it, but I'll reserve in-depth judgement until it's released for sale, evaluation, and testing.

I hope that's the Tactical version, because I don't like all that space between the end of the frame and the end of the barrel. I know my current 4" Service Model has a little space, but not nearly that much.
Good point. I don't care for the look of the current tactical version, so this could very well be a tactical, given the length. Without that, the looks would improve quite a bit in my book.

as long as its an addition and not a replacement then I have no issue with it, and I acctualy like the fact that it gives people more options. Who knows it could bring more people to the XD family.

I'm liking the grip angle... Something about the muzzle end bugs me... But If the balance and feel is what I think it will be, I think I will be buying my XD40 Service a new buddy.

i like the take down lever....looks like it folds down like a Sig.

i wonder if my XD slide would fit on the XDm frame?

i like the frame, but i wouldnt buy it (if it was anything more than a prototype) because of the slide on the XDm.

i vote no.

I vote NO on the new XD with "Gator-Grip"

I agree w/ the others who don't like the way the front of the slide looks.

I think the XDM on the grip looks lame.

...And what does the M stand for anyways?

I will have to hold it to really make my mind up, but that grip looks a bit too robocop for me. I probably would appreciate it more if I knew my hands would be wet every time I used it. But I'm not a Seal and don't have any delusions of being one.

rest of the world a whole new standard in ergonomic design and
available features.

With the introduction of the XD polymer pistol, we did just that.

Now we're gearing up to do it again.

Introducing the all new (M) Factor.
It's not just a new set of features for a new handgun.
It's about raising your expectations of what a polymer pistol should be.
It's about creating a new standard in value.
Translation:

In 2000, a small no-name, unknown company released an interesting pistol that turned out to be a great product. People were leary of a polymer gun with a $250 price tag, but they few that bought them found out how good they were. We purchased the rights to import this pistol a year later, and we re-badged it and raised the price $200. People actually bought the new pistol, as they trusted the Springfield Armory name more than "HS2000."
We've sold boatloads of them, and consumers have been happy.

Fast-forwarding to the present day, where most of our competition is offering sharp, toothy picatinny rails with multiple slots, serrations all over the place, and interchangeable backstraps. We just HAVE to jump on the bandwagon. "Tactical" has gone from being a Military/LE term to meaning "anything that is black" and now means "having the ability to hang a bunch of high-priced gadgets off of." Our 5" pistol just didn't fit the new definition of "Tactical," so we've decided to offer something a little more space-age, with an aggressive look that says "If the gun doesn't work, you can always use it as a throwing star!" Don't worry, it won't be too expsensive.

Personally, I think it looks like a great update to the old design, but I have to say, it doesn't look like a comfortable concealed carry gun. That's ok by me, because a weapon designed as a service pistol and one designed as a CCW pistol are two totally different things. The grip looks even longer than the current XDs, which is one of the reasons I don't carry my HS2K. The longer grip just prints too much with my mode of carry, body type, and clothing. The grip texture appears to be in very high relief, which is great for creating friction, but it looks like it would be painful to have digging into your lower torso all day. Maybe they are really trying to get into the "Service Pistol" market??
